Yesterday was simply wonderful. Should have more days like that.

Tin Tin Tango's Tango breakfast(nom) at 09, a tourist info office on Aleksanterinkatu 20, Pälikkö's art gallery next to it, with a visit to its 16th century dungeon that had a lot more of both Kimmo's paintings and his son JT's really cool steampunkish ...
Then off to the botanical garden at Kaisaniemi, which from the outside, in the barren Finnish winter brought to us images of a steampunk colonization project on a hostile, icy planet.
Then off to Pompei for one of the best pizzas I've had, with walnut and brie(om nom nom) and. After a brief detour of shoe and hand bag shopping we reunited with @miski,who had to part before the botanical garden, for a dessert and coffee at Bakers.
Of course spending a day with old friends instead of new ones isn't quite what the idea is about, but we did a lot of things we we've done at least very little of, and for the most part, avoided places we had visited before, and we might have well missed
The thing about appreciating botanical garden isn't in the mass or huge cale things but looking into the details. There's also Gardenia in Viikki and Winter Garden in Töölöä (latter is free of charge, if I recall right).
16 th century dungeon with steampunk? Where have you been and is that open to public? :)
Ought to see that movie, waiting till it comes from TV or is on some festival. (Sure way to miss it totally.) Watched first episode of True Blood yesterday and got comments from my spouse, that I might aswell admit to knowing how much sex was in it. I didn't, just that it's corny and some rpg gamer friends digged it a lot! Not sure if Mikko would like to see the next episode.
Yeah, I should've been clearer. The garden itself wouldn't be that much cooler by not having roofs and walls, but having one like that would be a lot cooler than having one in greenhouses.
... except that it would. It would feel very different without the roof and being larger.
Well, now that I think of it, I think that building is from the 19th century, and not 18th(16th was a typo, sorry), so my bad for taking the claim of 18th century at face value. The Pälikkös' gallery is on the Senate Square. On the street level it's just a small one room shop, but as @semilia wished out loud that they would have had some of JT Pälikkö's swords there, the attendant told us that there were some downstairs and that she could give us a tour. Then she closed the shop for a while and took us there(the dungeon's accessed through the building's inner yard, so it's not evident that the gallery even has more space than the street level.) She told us that as long as the shop's not busy they like to take people there. Down there was a corridor and a single large room both lined up with Kimmo's paintings and some of JT's weapons and other steel works.
As for the movie, grab a few friends and go watch it. It's good.
Woah, that dungeon visit sounds great! Gotta ask somebody who could appreciate stuff like that, like @Tiuku, and go there & for a coffee nearby. Also there's an exhibition at Söderholm's House (free entry) which I haven't seen and which she might dig.

... steel insects and weapons in addition to the knives upstairs.

The warm and humid garden itself was a very nice contrast to the unusually cold weather outside. The South African section was especially cool.

The staff was nice and after touring the place we had hot chocolate sitting under a cocoa tree ;)

Then some champagne at Black Door and finally the excellent movie Låt den rätte komma in(Ystävät hämärän jälkeen/Let the right one come in.)

At some point I mentioned the idea of a New Day, which we, to an extent, started implementing after that.

There was also a lot more very bad humour than any mind can take without breaking several times over <3

The botanical garden would be cooler by orders of magnitude if it wasn't an enclosed space. What's taking so long with the 20th nuclear power plant...
